TECH Outreach, a Non-Profit NGO has been in existence in Malaysia since 2004. Our primary objective is to transform widows, single mothers, and women-headed households into women entrepreneurs.
We have reached out to more than 2000 women in need in Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Nepal by initiating small income generation projects for them and helping them with their small businesses, farming, and animal husbandry.
In March 2016, the TECH Outreach team conducted a needs analysis in the five villages in the vicinity of Omanthai, Vavuniya, and discovered an acute water deficit.
The Civil War, which ended in May 2009, took its toll on Vavuniya. All existing wells were destroyed, and families whose houses were occupied by the Sri Lanka army and had no access to water were resettled on their own land or in forested areas.
Women and children had to walk long distances to fetch water for their families. Sanitation was at its worst level and crop failure was common due to the non-availability of water.
Our team bravely initiated a Transformation plan for 1,000 war widows in North-East Sri Lanka in May 2016. A charity luncheon was held later on the 1st of July at Kalamandapam in Lorong Scott, raising RM160,000 and setting the pace for the implementation of the Transformation Plan.
BATCH 1
- In October 2016, 34 dug wells were rehabilitated in 5 villages, namely, Mahilangkulam, Chinnakulam, Villakku Vacha Kulam, Parkku Chorithaan and Periyaar Chinnakulam. Apart from providing water for agriculture, the wells also provide clean water for household usage.
BATCH 2
- TECH Outreach rehabilitated 18 dug wells in 2018. The word “rehabilitate” is used since many of the women have mud-covered and unusable wells.
- In January 2019, our team visited Vavuniya to seek permission from the local authorities to construct motor tube wells which were substantially cheaper and just as effective as dug wells.
BATCH 3
- One of TECH Outreach’s youth members organised an online donation drive in April 2019, and she raised RM2000 for a Motor tube well. Two more wells were built due to the women’s re-payments.
- A new motor tube well was constructed in July 2019.
- With a contribution of RM2000 per family, we can help these women become women farmers. We have registered them as a Women Farmers Organisation and created a Value Chain for them.
- Our proposal is to create an additional 100 women farmers in 2019 in Omanthai, Kilinochchi, Pudhukudirippu, and Ottusuttan. The construction of the wells will commence in September 2019.
- Our funds are managed by the branch in Vavuniya of a UK-based NGO, namely, Assist RR, headed by Dr. Sarveswaran.
We look forward to receiving a contribution from you in order to achieve our goal and assist these women and children.
