TECH Outreach , a Non-Profit NGO has been in existence in Malaysia, since 2004.Our primary objective is to transform widows, single mothers and women headed households into women entrepreneurs.
We have reached out to more than 2000 women in need in Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Nepal by initiating small income generation projects for these women and helping them with small businesses, farming and animal husbandry.
A needs analysis conducted by the TECH Outreach team in March 2016, identified an acute shortage of water in the 5 villages in the vicinity of Omanthai, Vavunniya. Vavunniya witnessed the brunt of the Civil war that ended in May 2009. All existing wells had been destroyed and the families that were resettled in their own lands or in forested areas cleared for housing for those, whose houses were occupied by the Sri Lanka army, had no access to any water, Women and children needed to walk long distances to fetch water for household utilisation. Sanitation was at its worst level and crop failure was common due to non-availability of water,
In May 2016, TECH Outreach bravely initiated a Transformation Plan for 1000 war widows in North-East Sri Lanka. A Charity Lunch, organised on 1st July 2016 at the Kalamandapam, Lorong Scott, netted in RM160,000.00 and that set the pace for the implementation of the Transformation Plan.
In October 2016, 34 dug wells were rehabilitated in 5 villages, namely, Mahilangkulam, Chinnakulam, Villakku Vacha Kulam, Parkku Chorithaan and Periyaar Chinnakulam.
The wells, besides providing water for farming, provide clean water for household use as well.
In 2018 TECH Outreach rehabilitated 18 dug wells. The word ‘Rehabilitate” is used as many of the women have wells that are mud covered and of no use.
The TECH team visited Vavunniya in January 2019 and sought permission from the local authorities to construct motor tube wells. These wells were much cheaper, compared to the dug wells and as effective.
In April 2019, TECH Outreach had an online donation drive by one of its youth members and she managed to rope in RM2000.00 for a Motor tube well. 2 other wells were constructed by the re-payments by the women.
In July 2019, another motor tube well was constructed.
With a contribution of RM2000.00 per family, we can help these women become women farmers. We have registered them as a Women Farmers Organisation and created a Value Chain for them.
Our proposal is to create an additional 100 women farmers in 2019 in Omanthai, Kilinochchi, Pudhukudirippu and Ottusuttan. The construction of the wells will commence in September 2019.
Our funds are managed by the branch in Vavunniya of a UK based NGO,namely, Assist RR, headed by Dr. Sarveswaran.
We look forward to a contribution from you, to realise our objective and help these women and children
